About Rita
My name is Rita. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors and hold a Masters of Counselling from Trinity Western University.
I’ve always been interested in learning about the human mind and in love with music and this led me in a journey to complete a Bachelor of Arts with Psychology Major and Music Minor at University of British Columbia.
In my graduate studies, I further pursued this passion with psychology and music as I received training in counselling as well as expressive modalities of therapy, including the use of art and music techniques, sandtray therapy, and play therapy. I also received various training in working with anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, and trauma: EMDR Basic Certification, Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy (Level II), Complicated and Traumatic Grief, Trauma Treatment, Somatic/Body-based Psychotherapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
My approach
My primarily approach is an integration of Person-Centred approach, Polyvagal Theory, and Daniel Siegel’s Mindsight approach.
My focus is creating a warm and safe environment for the exploration of the issues that clients bring into counselling. I also use various approaches and modalities, depending on clients’ individual needs, including:
Play therapy, Sandtray therapy, use of art and/or music
Somatic/Body-based Psychotherapy
Attachment Theory
Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy
Narrative Therapy
Services and Rates
Counselling is a collaborative process in which we will explore the issues that bring you to counselling and your experiences. In this process you’ll be supported to:
identify the areas that you wish to change
define goals you seek to accomplish
access the strength and resources within you
become more aware of and connected to your internal experiences
One of my passion is supporting children with the use of play/expressive therapy. My focus is to provide a loving and compassionate presence. I strongly believe in the combined power these two elements in facilitating growth, hope, resilience and healing. The approaches and modalities I use depends on each child’s choice(s), presenting issue(s), developmental stage, and temperament as well as family circumstances.
